maryc1964 My dad (RIP) and mum met at Hammersmith Palais in 1958 when they were at a dance class with their mates one night. Proper dancing, dressed up to the nines, was a thing back then. According to dad, it was love at first sight because to him, mum looked like a lovely rose. I was born a few years later. They both loved sweet soul music just like this, so every track on this album transports me back to their yesteryear. But as dad's nickname for mum was always Rose, you can guess my favourite track❤️ Favorite track: Can I Call You Rose?.

danqui Honestly not one mediocre song in the whole album. Every track is unique and special but yet somehow they all come together and compliment each other flawlessly. 😀 Favorite track: Future Lover.

Produced by Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth, Thee Sacred Souls is a warm and textured record, mixing the easygoing grace of sweet ’60s soul with the grit of early ’70s R&B. The performances are utterly intoxicating, with Lane’s weightless vocals anchored by the rhythm section’s deep pocket and infectious chemistry. Hints of Chicano, Philly, Chicago, Memphis, and even Panama soul turn up here, and while it’s tempting to toss around labels like “retro” with a deliberately analog collection like this, there’s also something distinctly modern about the band that defies easy categorization, a rawness and a sincerity that transcends time and place.
